• Arlington National Cemetery, the Арлингтонское национальное кладбище. Находится в ведении Министерства обороны, но по существу является официальным кладбищем США, где хоронят не только военных, но и крупных государственных деятелей. Там похоронены президент Джон Кеннеди и его брат, сенатор Роберт Кеннеди, а тж. другие известные американцы. Над могилой Джона Кеннеди горит Вечный огонь [Eternal Flame]. В восточной части Арлингтонского мемориала находится могила Неизвестного солдата [Tomb of the Unknown Soldier], погибшего в годы I мировой войны. Надпись на надгробии гласит: «Здесь покоится снискавший славу и почёт американский солдат, имя которого знает только Бог». В 1958 в склепе, рядом с телом Неизвестного солдата, захоронили останки ещё двух неопознанных военнослужащих, один из которых погиб во время II мировой войны, а другой — во время войны в Корее. У могилы Неизвестного солдата всегда стоит часовой. Рядом, на вершине холма, над кладбищем возвышается Арлингтонский дом [Arlington House], где жил ген. Роберт Ли (кладбище расположено на земле, ранее принадлежавшей ему). К северу от кладбища стоит бронзовый памятник, запечатлевший момент поднятия американского флага на о-ве Иводзима [Iwo Jima] ( Япония) во время II мировой войныСША. Крупнейшее в США военное мемориальное кладбище в г. Арлингтоне, шт. Вирджиния, на берегу реки Потомак [ Potomac River] в окрестностях г. Вашингтона. Площадь около 250 га. На нем могут быть похоронены лица, "состоявшие когда-либо на службе в вооруженных силах США, чья служба закончилась геройски, а также члены их семей". Основано в 1864. Более 260 тыс. захоронений. В 1921 произведено торжественное захоронение Неизвестного американского солдата первой мировой войны. Могила Неизвестного солдата [ Tomb of the Unknown Soldier] была открыта без церемонии в 1932. На Могиле надпись: "Здесь покоится в почетной славе американский солдат, имя которого известно лишь Богу" ["Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God"]. Захоронения неизвестных воинов второй мировой и корейской [ Korean War] войн были произведены 30 мая 1958, а Неизвестного военнослужащего войны во Вьетнаме [Unknown Serviceman of Vietnam] - 28 мая 1984. Здесь похоронены выдающиеся деятели США: президент Дж. Кеннеди [ Kennedy, John Fitzgerald (JFK)] (на его могиле горит вечный огонь) и его брат сенатор Р. Кеннеди [ Kennedy, Robert Francis (Bobby) (RFK)], президенты Г. Гувер [ Hoover, Herbert Clark] и У.
